Sterling Qualities—on The Combined Application And Inheritance Of Gold And Jade In Articles Of Qing Dynasty

Jade inlayed with gold is one of art forms in c tradition esthetics, and occupies an important position in their very beginning. During the course of their development, Chinese ancients constantly enriched and innovated them, and gave them lofty status and good moral. Qing Dynasty is heyday of Chinese art of jade inlayed with gold. In this period, the artifacts which inlayed jade with gold inherited previous dynasties’ achievements and forward, formed elaborate and delicate characteristics. The art of jade inlayed with gold in Qing Dynasty pay grate attention to the performance of softy, delicate, gorgeous, became colorful and diversity, and exerted far-reaching influence on Chinese art of jade inlayed with gold. The dissertation begins with the introduction of physical and chemical characteristic of jade and gold, reviews the historical development of artifacts, which inlayed jade with gold, and briefly combs their historical periods. Then, their social functions in different historical periods, including used as religious artifact, beautifying functions, totalitarian symbol and allegorical function, were analyzed. Next, through the study with jade inlayed with gold in Qing Dynasty, the dissertation found that the artifacts which inlayed jade with gold in this period inlayed the foundation of those in this days, whether in their modeling, texture, craft, or their foundation, implied meanings. At last, the dissertation takes a panoramic view of the market of the artifacts, which inlayed jade with gold, and pose the questions as follow.(1) The contradiction between the pattern and type of the artifacts which inlayed jade with gold and the demands of consumers.(2) The contradiction between the artifacts which inlayed jade with gold and the jewel which inlayed with Color stones.(3) The contradiction between the modern artifacts which inlayed jade with gold and the traditional ones. Aimed those questions, the dissertation put forward practical measures and suggestions.In addition, the dissertation realized the historic challenge that traditional culture and art faced in the tide of integration of the world today. At the present stage, the booming of Chinese artifacts which inlayed jade with gold has more profound significance. The protection of traditional culture and art is based on inheriting and developing them simultaneously. We should borrow the essence of foreign culture, and enhance our excellent national culture. Only in this way, Chinese traditional culture can remain invincible in world cultural diversity.
