The Aesthetic Space Of Italian Neo-realism

As the first large-scale film movement after World War Ⅱ, Italian Neo-realism had left a number of outstanding works with far-reaching impaction, its rich connotation and advanced aesthetic conception directly or indirectly led the film revolutions again and again in different countries and regions, had influenced many film makers from generation to generation.Because of taking the camera into the social reality for outdoor scene and the combination with the film story, the space of Italian Neo-realism works has a newer form and more connotation. Analyzing the structure of the space of Italian Neo-realism, is trying to find the way how it forms its unique aesthetic space through the shaping of reality. Around this problem, this thesis discusses it from the method of aesthetic practice. The analysis of the space in this thesis, is based on the analysis of structure of the shot-space and the scene-space on one hand, and also based on the analysis of the entire structure of the space based on the story on the other.Based on the film aesthetics, combined with the theory and method of the film drama, this thesis discusses the aesthetic space which is one of the aesthetic characteristics of Italian Neo-realism. There are four chapters in this thesis. The first chapter sorts out the history of Italian Neo-realism, the second chapter discusses the aesthetic function of the space of the neo-realism from two aspects:the realistic function and the ideogrammatic function, the third chapter analyzes the spatial organization based on the narrative, the forth chapter discuss the relationship between the script writing and the theory, and how to apply the theory to practice.
