A Report On The Translation Of The First Chapter Of Go Wild

The report is based on the translation practice of the first chapter of the book Go Wild, with the theoretical foundation of Nida’s functional equivalence theory. Meanwhile, the translator applied the strategy of domestication and foreignization in the translation practice as well.The practical report is composed of five parts:In the introduction part, the writers and the comment of the book were introduced, and the current research situations of this kind of books were mentioned as well.In the Task Description Chapter, the translator described the original book, together with the linguistic and stylistic features of the book; meanwhile,the translator set the goals of the translation, along with the arrangement she made to implement the task.The writers of Go Wild are John Ratey and Richard Manning; John Ratey, an associate professor of Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, is a well-known writer, who has written and published a variety of related series of books in his field, one of which has been translated into Chinese The Series of Distractions. Go Wild is a new highlight of John Ratey and Richard Manning, which elaborates, in ten chapters, that modern people should go wild, and imitate the ancient Homo sapiens to approach nature, to live harmoniously with nature, and to get rid of the restrictions of the civilization. The translator expects that Chinese readers would learn more as to the healthy lifestyle, which could make people fit and strong physically, cheerful and delighted mentally.In chapter Two, the translator elaborated the whole process and all the translating activities. The process includes three phases: preparation, translation, and sum-up. The translator revealed the cores of each phase and illustrated the consequences as well.In the chapter of Case Analysis, four subjects: the translation of terminology, Nida’s functional equivalence theory and its application, the translating method of domestication and foreignization, and the very strategy for the popularized books of science were mainly analyzed and demonstrated.In conclusion, the whole translation project was reflected on and the experiences and lessons the translator acquired in the process were summarized.The initial purpose for the translator to translate the book is to recommend it to Chinese readers. On the other hand, during the process of translating parts of the book, the translator could polish and improve her translation skills in the process.After translating the first chapter of the book and reflecting on the whole process, the translator wrote this report, which concentrates on the difficulties she has been confronted with and a couple of methods she applied to resolve the problems.
