The texts of this translation report are literary texts,which are John L?Heureux?s short story “The Escape” and Camille Bordas?s short story “The Presentation on Egypt”.They were both published in The New Yorker in 2019.“The Escape” tells a story about a Parkinson patient?s attitudes towards death.“The Presentation on Egypt” is about suicidal depression and anxiety.Both of them deal with mental health disorders.It?s intended that these translations help enhance readers? awareness of mental health diseases and arouse the attention of the society.In the process of translation,Eugene A.Nida?s functional equivalence is adopted as the theoretical guidance,and Venuti?s domestication and foreignization are used as translation strategies.Considering the characteristics of literary translation,the translator uses different translation methods to solve problems and strives to increase the aesthetic effect on the basis of ensuring the smoothness of translations.Several translation methods are adopted to solve the difficulties in the process of translation,such as amplification,the Chinese four-character phrases,restructuring and annotation and so on.Through this translation practice report,my translation ability has been improved,language expressions and cultural knowledge have been expanded.Moreover,this translation report also helps me to find out my shortcomings and have a clear goal for future study. |
