Practicum is an indispensible course for students who major in Interpreting and Translation(MTI). This report is based on the interpreting tasks that the author has undertaken at seven conferences as a student in the two–year MTI program, among which four conferences were simultaneous interpreting and three conferences were consecutive interpreting. The author initially discusses on the seven tasks in perspectives from preparation work, interpreting process and feedbacksafter interpreting. Then, three problems, incomplete information, inaccurate information and pace, are revealed based on the criteria of interpreting. In accordance with the cognitive psychology, interpretation is a process of mental activity. Thus, those three problems are analyzed from the perspective of cognitive capacity and interpreter’s metacognition. Suggestions are provided inclusively to the student interpreter after the analysis of the cognition capacity and metacognition for improvement of on-site interpreting and long-term preparations. By doing this, the author hopes that those suggestions will be the guidance for the student interpreter.
