In recent years, most online hot events intend to be increasingly negative. With the Chinese society is in transition period, the social development is not comprehensive, the deprivation and insecurity which individuals feel in the real life drive them get online network, pay attention and take part in hot events in internet. And some characteristics of the cyber environment, such as anonymity and invisibility make it easier for individuals to feel free to express extreme emotions, hostility and aggression, and makes online groups are more likely to polarize. Because of that, huge amount of unconfirmed, provocative information exist in cyberspace which in turn affect more individuals. That makes events in internet are more likely to lose control, and have bad consequences.Previous studies explore the spreading process of unconfirmed inflammatory information in terms of information dissemination; or discuss the influence of individual differences in the spreading process. However few studies focus on the different types of behavioral tendency and the psychological factors behind them. In this study, a number of internet users are classified into inflammatory or rational by their online language style, and explore the psychological mechanism behind their language differences. This thesis contains three studies.Study one compares the pattern of language usage in inflammatory and rational internet users using Meaning Extraction Method, find that both types of internet users show great concern on the society events but the rational internet users tend to connect those events with positive expectations. No such tendency found in inflammatory users.Study two, explores the subtle distinction between two types of individuals’language use, using feature selection and explaining result considering the psychological implications of words. Find that:inflammatory and rational individuals differ in group identity, affiliation motivation, interpersonal trust, self-esteem and the level of cognitive process. The inflammatory individuals intend to seek more group identity, have stronger affiliation motivation, higher interpersonal trust online and self-esteem but lower level of cognitive process.Study three deploy semantic decomposition method, to explore the differences of two types of individuals at the conception level. Found that two types of individuals may have different semantic structure. In the whole level, inflammatory individuals’conceptions will tend to connect with more negative emotions, which suggest in most case inflammatory individuals’conceptions have more negative meaning and that will lead to more negative attitude.
