The Research On Liang Yuan Scholar Group

As the foundation of the country was not very stable at the beginning of Western Han Dynasty, the vassal kings were administrative ministers who were responsible for the royal court consequently. On one hand, the vassal kings were conceited because of their privileged power. On the other, they still recruited distinguished and virtuous gentlemen just as what the feudal lord kings did in the Warring States period. Among them, the scholar group around Liu Wu, the king of Liang Dynasty, was best known and characteristic of the like group. This thesis aims to center on this group as the main subject of research study and involve other pertaining scholar groups at the beginning of the Western Han Dynasty so as to have a much more detailed discussion about the peculiar phenomenon of Scholars’Clustering.The first chapter of this thesis points out the reason of the formation of Liang Yuan scholar group. Standing between the Spring and Autumn period and the Making of Prosperity of Han Emperor Wudi, the unique historical and social background of the early Han dynasty was an essential element for the formation of Liang Yuan scholar group. In addition, the geographical advantages of the several feudal provinces controlled by Liu Wu and his own personality and character were also responsible for so many excellent scholars clustering around him.The second chapter minutely introduces the specific time of Liang Yuan scholar clustering and its main group members which renders us much more easier to define the works produced in that particular time.The third chapter mainly analyses the writing styles of Liang Yuan scholar group. During this period, the scholars created a large amount of well-known works. This thesis probes into their writings on Object-chanting Fu, the Great Fu of Han Dynasty and prose respectively in order to find the various artistic skills related to different literary styles.The fourth chapter conducts research on Liang Yuan scholar group from the synchronic and diachronic perspectives respectively. In the light of synchronic perspective and taking the social background of the early Han dynasty into consideration, it analyses the unique features of Liang Yuan scholar group which is quite different from that of other scholar groups in that certain time. From the other aspect, it further discusses the vital influence of Liang Yuan scholar group on later scholar groups and on the distinguished individual scholars consequently from the historical point of view.
