The subject of this dissertation is the analysis of the Chu people’s aesthetic concept, and its containing aesthetic features, as well as the influence on the thought of Qu Yuan’s poems and the artistic achievements. From the perspective of aesthetics, the text, starting from the Chu people’s aesthetic concept, reveals the important influence of Chu culture on the formation of Chu people’s aesthetic concept, on the basic analysis of the aspects of material culture, religion culture, mythology and other ones and the inherent characteristics of Chu people’s aesthetic ideas. Then, taking the great poet Qu Yuan’ poetry as a representative, the text gives the priority to the close link between Qu Yuan, Qu Yuan’s poetry and the Chu people’s aesthetic idea. Hence, the culture heritage in Chuci and Qu Yuan’s aesthetic thought will be found out, and furthermore making a more contribution to a good study of the aesthetic part of Chu culture.The study attempts to discuss the research on Qu Yuan’s poetry and aesthetic concept of Chu people from four parts:The first chapter is an overview of the Chu people’s aesthetic ideas, basically from the display of bronzes, jades, the concept of spirits and gods, totem, myth, dress and adornment, architecture and dancing and other aspects. This chapter is divided into two parts, and the first one is the above analysis. The other part is a extension of the previous one, which shows and summaries the intrinsic characteristics of the aesthetic concept of Chu people, such as the pursuit of harmony, worship of “lingdong”, which means something peculiar, amazing and hard to catch, the fancy love for gorgeous colors, and grandness.The second chapter is to analyze the deep reasons behind the formation of the aesthetic concept of Chu people from geographical environment, historical culture, Wu culture and philosophic thinking.The third and fourth chapter are mainly based on Hong Xingzu’s work, Chu CI Bu Zhu, a replenish, or refuting and correcting the old views in Chuci, and supplemented by Zhu Xi’ work, Chu Ci Ji Zhu, synthesizing and compiling the annotation of different scholars to Chuci. And combining with the historical literature and documents of various periods and unearthed cultural relics, the two chapters provide an aesthetic appreciation of Chu people in their daily life from the angle of the poetry of Qu Yuan, that is, food, utensils, clothing, buildings, music, totem and harmoniously political thought. In that way it will show a three-dimensional and full-ranged display of the aesthetic ideas which is buried in Qu Yuan’s poems.The conclusion part is a summary of the connection between the artistic achievement of Qu Yuan’s poetry and the aesthetic concept of Chu people, which, therefore, indicates the inspiration and impact of Chu culture brought on Qu Yuan’s literary creation. But on the other hand, Qu Yuan’s poetry, also enriching the content of Chu culture, as well as other literary phenomenon, such as the philosophy of Lao Zi and Zhuang Zi, all help to nudge the state of Chu towards its climax.
