Hollywood film industry has been dominating the film industry in the world. The annualAcademy Awards Ceremony aims to honor the outstanding filmmakers and movies in theprevious year, and it has been an annual festival for its great influence and weathervane effect,which shows the America’s spirit of times and mainstream value tendency. The Oscars havebrought the new visual experience for the audience and been ranked as a top one in the world’smajor film festival with constantly changing themes and theatrical style. The current academicresearch on Oscars mainly focuses on the awards process and filmmaker analysis, without manymonographs and papers on aesthetic culture. Given the great influence of the Oscars on a globalscale, it is bound to bring huge inspiration for all kinds of domestic awards ceremony if weconduct aesthetic witnessing and absorb essence, which will promote vigorous development ofall kinds of awards ceremony greatly. Meanwhile, it will accelerate the process of globalizationof the Chinese film industry, and promote the prosperity of the cultural industries. This papertries to adopt a comparative approach from the aesthetic and cultural perspective, start with themain elements of Oscars, and analyze the four aesthetic characteristics of Oscars to explore theunique aesthetic cultural implication of Oscars. This paper is composed of six parts including theintroduction, four chapters and the conclusion.The introduction mainly explains the current situation of researches on Oscars in China, andpresent perspective, methods, and innovative meaning of this paper.Chapter one explores preliminarily the historical roots, processes and elements of theAcademy Awards Ceremony. The Oscars, born in1929, the first one of which was held in theform of small, family-award dinner, has become luxury ceremony with a fixed program todaywith amazing influence both at home and abroad. Each Oscar arranges the red carpet show as aprelude to the star of award, the auditorium award for the climax, and luxury party for the end.The master of ceremonies in the award process, stage lighting and theme are the main elementsof the Academy Awards Ceremony. Chapter two conducts aesthetic analysis on the main elements of the Oscars. To be specific,it is to analyze the aesthetic characteristics of appearance, language, form, contents, throughinterpretation of its brilliant appearance, ingenious language, and suspense, which reflect itsdistinctive and leading role in film industry in the world.Chapter three aims to study the aesthetic culture of the Oscars. There are multipleaesthetic implications behind its gorgeous shell. First, it is political philosophy and humanisticspirit that conflict with each other in the Oscars. Those political overtones in the ceremony areoften recognized as annual symbols. The second is the "big aesthetic economy" to achievewin-win. A visual feast will promote economic development greatly to achieve win-win. Thethird is the cultural aesthetic deconstruction of racial discrimination. There is only culture blendrather than racial barriers. The fourth is the aesthetic experience of carnival, which ischaracterized by nature of catharsis, subversive, and classless.Chapter four focus on its comparison with China’s Bai Hua Awards, which is the highestaward in film industry in China. This chapter will interpret different aesthetic orientation of theawards ceremony at home and abroad by comparing from the aspects of overall style and contentsettings. And it will discuss collision between the relaxed or serious style, in other words,between elegance and vulgar.The conclusion is to re-examine the aesthetic value of the awards ceremony, to concernabout the domestic and international film awards ceremony at present and in future hoping tobroaden horizons for domestic research on Oscars and provide new research directions.
