Shyness impacted interactions between children and companions, leading to poor interpersonal relationship and social isolation.Also Shyness impacted the opportunity of social skills learning and development. It caused the future socialadaptation problems. Parents and teachers often noticed shyness children when their shyness gradually became obvious problems, which influenced on their positive development tendency.So families and schools needed immediately to attention shyness children, and strengthened the correct guidance and intervention measures.The study aimed to explore the structure contents of shyness children through qualitative research methods, and develop effective measurement tools-- the Shyness Children Rating Scale(parentedition). Then this study was to investigate relationship among demographic factors, shyness, and social skillsthrough the questionnaire survey. Besides,the study aimed to examine the effectiveness of behavior approach toart therapy for social skills with shyness.The obtained results of this present study indicated that:1. Qualitative research results showed that, the structure contentsof shyness children included seven aspects: self-cognition process, emotional feeling, social skills, cause shyness clues, external performance, genetic and education environment, personal characteristics.2.Quantitative research results showed that,on the one side, the Shyness Children Rating Scale(parent edition) included five dimensions: external performance, passivity, private self-awareness, social withdrawal and lack of self-expression. It had good validity and reliability, and could be used as an effective measurement tool. And on the another side, questionnaire survey results showed that, firstly,Children’s shyness and social skills were in a good situation. Secondly, demographic variables had important influences on shyness and social skills. There were kinds of differences on only-child or not, registered permanent address, mother’s cultural level, father’s cultural level, parenting stylesfamily atmosphere and family income. Thirdly, children’s social skills had significant differences on sexual, only-child or not, registered permanent address, mother’s cultural level, father’s cultural level, parenting stylesfamily atmosphere and family income. Fourthly, there was significant interaction between family income, the type of children’s shyness level and social skills. Fifth, there existedsignificant correlation betweenshyness and social skills. Sixfth, children’s demographic variableshad significant influence on their shyness by social skills.3.Experimental research results showed that, behavior approach to art therapy for social skills with shyness had timely and maintain effects.
