| Nowadays, Chinese people are increasingly interested in sports activities across the world. After the opening of the2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil?, many Chinese people read news about this world sports event. Therefore, it is important to carry out a comprehensive study on the Chinese translation of English sports news.The writer of this paper translated some pieces of the English news about 2014 FIFA World Cup Brazil?. In this paper, the writer analyzes the characteristics of sports news in terms of vocabulary, sentence and style as well as the difficulties in translation. Drawing on the functional equivalence theory, the writer summarizes the translation strategies in sports news translation, such as referring to parallel texts, addition, omission, division and word order shift.There are four chapters in this paper. In chapter one, the writer introduces the research background and the functional equivalence theory. In chapter two, the writer analyzes the characteristics of sports news and difficulties in translation. In chapter three, the writer suggests some translation strategies. In the last chapter, the writer summaries the significance of this paper.The writer of this paper wishes to make some contribution to the research on EC translation of sports news, which has not yet been sufficiently carried out so far. |
