The Research On Construction Of Chinese Character In US Drama In Intercultural Perspective

With the trend of globalization pushing ahead in the new century, cross-cultural communications between different countries have become increasingly frequent and close. Image communication become an important carrier of intercultural communication as its unparalleled enchantment between popular culture and elegant art. As one the effective means of image communication, television attracts bulky audience and turns into the most prevalent entertainment of popular culture because of its common and understandable receiving style and intense audiovisual feelings. Being one of international art languages, television gradually converts into an important carrier for transmitting information,revealing emotions, inheriting culture and exchanging thoughts, meanwhile, it is beneficial to build the image of social groups and states.American TV series(US drama)have been spread over three decades in China since The Man from Atlantis was been domestic broadcast in the 1980 s.US drama portrays the daily life of American citizens and absorbs huge exotic elements including Chinese character simultaneously, and ethnic Chinese are as well emerging in their screen. However, for the purpose of disseminating its dominant American ideology and political leanings, Us drama sets up stereotyped characteristics of ethnic Chinese: vile, evil, rigid, persecution, cheap labor etc. Ethnic Chinese become supposed cultural symbol rather than real self. US drama relying on global intercultural communication and novel network media rapidly occupies Chinese market in the 21 st century, and establishes new Chinese figures who are diverse, positive, staple......It doesn’t mean that is radically amended but compromise to some extent based on international relations and comprehensive strength, in fact it is the product competing for discourse power and implementing American values and lifestyle in the Orientalism perspective.In this paper, by means of Saeed Orientalism, Culture and Imperialism, Roland Smiotics principle, Comparation Imagology theory, on the basis of text analysis, case studies and literature survey, according to early and recent image, cross-cultural interpretation, reshaping the Chinese, it analyzes Chinese character, investigates the characteristics, describes the split-new images, deeply excavates the reason from relatively negative to positive pattern and makes effective recommendations on improving unreal and unreasonable appearance and reconstructing vigorous, aspirant and brave look.
