A “track” is defined in the contemporary Chinese dictionary as a perceptible remaining or imprinting left by something passed. In our real world, people will inevitably left tracks in their life from small footsteps to shooting stars across the sky.Similarly, in the world of art, artists also left tracks in their painting activities. Different kinds of paintings present different moulage effects because of different textures used.For example, ink becomes denser when it is put on a piece of Chinese art paper and pigment seems to a thicker and mottled texture when it is on the canvas of an oil painting. Artists usually display their inner world in the forms of tracks or through these picture effects. When appreciating excellent works, people may marvel at that tracks should bring people so wonderful aesthetic feelings and have so ingenious boldness of vision in the world of painting. Magical tracks, mottles colors, rolling textures on the picture as well as the unique grains of the drawing paper all make people admit that it is these tracks, these artistic languages that enrich the spiritual contents of painting varieties and give painting the artistic beauty and spirit.According to different presentations, both Chinese painting and oil painting belong to direct creation, that is to say, to paint directly with pigment on materials such as paper or canvas. This paper is to discuss the charms of tracks in the creation of print.Print belongs to an indirect creation way, which refers to tracks that take printing plate as a medium and are finally presented on the drawing paper. Prints can be classified into woodcut, copper etching, lithograph, silk screen prints and other prints(such as plate print, paper print picture and computer engraving) due to physical property materials used in plate-making. Different kinds of printing plates have different track effects. This paper mainly presents artistic charms of tracks in woodcut, copper etching and silk screen prints.This paper begins with focusing attention on portrait brick and portrait stone of Han dynasty, because they can be used for reference for prints, and meanwhile show people that print is also a kind of track. Then it gives an explanation of the purpose ofstudy on print track and tells you how to mingle your emotion with tracks and how to find artistic charms of tracks in copper etching and silk screen prints from angles of“point”, “line” and “plane”. Finally, the author talks about how to show track charms of prints with my own creating practice.
