Recent studies have demonstrated that bodily expressions dramatically influence the recognition of basic facial expressions; however, there is little research on the reverse. Thus, the present study examined whether facial expressions can influence the perception of bodily expressions. There are three experiments in present study:(1) In experiment 1,we made participants performed an affective priming task whereby priming stimuli were facial expressions(angry, fear, happy, sad, and neutral), and the target stimuli were bodily expressions of the same(minus neutral).(2) In experiment 2, Electrophysiological correlates of the processing bodily expressions were investigated in subjects performing the affective priming task. The priming stimuli were facial expressions(fear and happy), and the target stimuli were bodily expressions of the same.(3)In experiment 3,Electrophysiological correlates of the processing bodily expressions were investigated in subjects performing the no-priming task. The priming stimuli were neural facial masking expressions and target stimuli were bodily expressions(fear and happy). Our finding suggest that:(1) Facial expressions also influence the recognition of bodily expressions;(2) By ERP, we found that the affective priming effect and the interaction between face and body influence the recognition of bodily expression in 3 stage.(3) Affective priming effect do the influence in 1st stage and 2nd stage, the interaction between face and body do the influence in 2nd stage. In the 3rd stage, they do not the influence on recognition of bodily expression any more.
