The intention of this dissertation is to have a deep analysis of Stravinsky’s neoclassical music’s connotation, and we want to have an overall understanding of the development and improvement of Stravinsky’s neoclassical music. The first chapter starts from the history of neoclassical music, and we clearly summarize the evolution and development of neoclassical music in order to have a basic frame of Stravinsky’s neoclassical music. The second chapter has an overall understanding of Stravinsky’s neoclassical music in terms of many angels, such as social history and nostalgic psychology. The third chapter summarizes Stravinsky’s aesthetics thoughts in terms of his anti-romance thoughts and the essence of music. The fourth chapter not only digs out the significant factors, that is to say, discipline value, which are contained in Stravinsky’s neoclassical music, but also reveals the two roots of Stravinsky’s discipline value, that is to say, reason trend of modern times and Stravinsky’s characteristics. In addition, the fourth chapter fully expresses the discipline value, which is contained in neoclassical music, by musical phenomenon, musical performance and musical composition. The fifth chapter starts from Stravinsky’s piano compositions. In terms of the backgrounds, artistic language and characteristics, we emphatically analyze his typical work——Piano Sonata——in terms of harmony, polyphonic and formal structure. After a further detailed analysis of Stravinsky’s typical works, not only can we discover Stravinsky’s contributions made to neoclassical music, but also we can reveal his drawbacks.In the analysis process of Stravinsky’s typical works of neoclassical music, we may effortlessly identify that, Stravinsky cannot have a different path and hardly form his own style owing to he cannot stray too far away from traditional European music. On the contrary, he leads a way which keeps many contacts with traditional European music, not only in combination, but also in separation. Stravinsky’s special way of thinking and life experience, different feeling of paradox and feeling of separation, which is full of tension, are fully expressed by this way, which has special contacts with traditional European music.
