When it comes to the most pioneering and controversial composers of the twentieth century,Stravinsky must be one of the representatives. In his early period,Stravinsky was famous for the success of three works of ballet music,The Firebird,Petrushka and The Rite of Spring. However, what surprised people at that time and later generations was that during the later time in his career, his musical style changed twice and he stood in two opposing camps in the western music of the last century one after another. In addition, his achievements were quite abundant all the time. The Soldier's Tale, which will be discussed in this paper, was created in the transitional period from Stravinsky's "Russian Period" to "Neoclassical Period".The story of this work originated from Russian folk tales, but the compositional techniques were different from those of Stravinsky's typical works of "Russian Period".Therefore,The soldier's tale played a connecting role in Stravinsky's music. In this paper,I will first focus on the analysis of the music, then discuss the causes of the musical style from the perspective of Musicology, and the relationship between drama and music,in order to present Stravinsky's compositional techniques and ideas.
