A Practice Report On Banquet Interpreting At The 2014 China (Ningxia) International Beef And Mutton Products & Equipment Exhibition

This paper is an interpreting practice report. Based on the banquet interpreting task conducted by the author at the banquet of 2014 China (Ningxia) International Beef and Mutton Products & Equipment Exhibition, the paper describes the background and process of the interpreting task, analyses specific cases and comes to a conclusion:an interpreter is not just a language converter or a microphone in a banquet interpreting task, he/she should make full play of his/her subjectivity consciousness as a participant of the communication. Besides linguistic skills and a wide non-linguistic knowledge, business skills (including ability of communication and being friendly) are also a banquet interpreter’s necessary ability. In the last chapter of the report, the author puts forward some suggestions on banquet interpreting and gives a self-evaluation. The author wishes this report can be useful to other banquet interpreters.
