As a literary genre, the nature of movie and TV literature is still exposed to the wide discussion, however, there is no denying that movie and literature tend to be closely bound together—to maintain competitiveness and vitality, the movie and TV literature is supposed to embrace its literary essence. Nowadays, the movie and TV literature serves as a bridge of cultural exchange and communication between different people, regions and nations. It has replaced the status of traditional literature as a more reachable media, making its way to all the corners of the world and thus to the life of people there.Since 1980 s, thanks to the reform and opening-up policy, the cultural industry has been developing at a high speed and the TV community’s foreign exchanges become more frequent. The foreign TV series, one after another, come into the view of Chinese audience. They earn a noticeable popularity with attractive story and distinct way of telling story, making a difference to the audience’s aesthetic interest and watching habit. The craze for American TV series is basically due to the audience’s interest and curiosity for exotic cultures and customs. The American TV series has owned a considerate group of funs in China and some of them are the university students who are ethnic minority in Xinjiang. According to the recent statistics by the Xinjiang universities, the students of ethnic minority make an average proportion of 45% in the total number of students in Xinjiang universities. In some universities such as Xinjiang University, the proportion is more than 60%. The students of ethnic minority is an important group with its large number of proportion.The lifestyle, cultural background, and conventions and customs of those students of ethnic minority are characterized with strong and distinct ethic features. Therefore, what are their attitudes towards American TV series? With questionnaire and interview with those students, the paper studies the media that they choose to watch, the motives of watching, and their attitudes towards the American TV series. It provides a further study of analysis for the factors that contribute to the results.The paper consists of six parts:The first chapter: the introduction explains the background and significance of the study, makes an outline of the present study and demonstrates the idea of the study and its methods as well as procedures. The second chapter: it makes an analysis of the researches and draws a conclusion of those ethnic students’ attitudes towards the American TV series. The third chapter: it puts forward an analysis of the attitudes from respects of personal aesthetic taste, aesthetic needs of social environment, allurement form distance beauty, etc. The fourth chapter: with the theory of reception in comparative literature, it explores the possible cultural purification when American TV series, as a movie and TV literature and foreign culture, come into the view of those ethnic students in Xinjiang and studies the reasons that give rise to the phenomenon from respects of traditional culture,religious background, ideology,national language. The fifth chapter: Conclusion.
