Few researches has been made on Chinese characters teach of minority students in Xinjiang, as to the studies on quantitative analysis of errors about Chinese characters too few to mention. From the view of Chinese characters errors of minority students, we want to explore the effective way of Chinese characters teaching and learning of minority students.This thesis deals with language materials from college students of Chinese Language Department of Xinjiang YiLi Normal College and students in No.23 Primary School in YiNing. Base on the interlanguage theory and error analysis theory, the thesis classified the errors of Chinese characters from the language materials collected as well as made a qualitative analysis and some charts. The present study suggests that the main reason of the errors of Chinese characters is that students lack knowledge of the system of Chinese characters as well as teachers don't know how to teach it. In the end ,according to the results of data analysis,the thesis suggests that the teaching of Chinese characters of minority students in Xinjiang should be carried out by stages along with the teaching of the pronunciation of Chinese characters throughout the stages.This thesis consists of six parts. Chapter one is a brief introduction. The present research status of the teaching of Chinese characters and the frame of the thesis were introduced. Chapter two analyzes the error types during the primary school. The result of the research shows that the error of grapheme is the main error type of pupils. Chapter three analyzes the error types during the college. The study shows that the error of the pronunciation of Chinese characters is the major error type of college students. Chapter four is an analysis on the reasons of Chinese character cognition errors. Chapter five ,some advice for teaching.Chapter six makes a conclusion. There is a summary of the whole thesis.
