Anthony C. Yu, as an overseas Chinese-American scholar who studies Sinology, his first academic ideal is to be a Western-know-all in humanities, contrary to Fei XiaoTong, the Chinese-know-all. In term of his academic study, his main direction is Greek epic and tragedy, Dante, Shakespeare, Milton and Camas. in his early study, he tend to Western literature and Christian Gods, while later he turns to study Sinology, he study and translated Journey to the West, a series research of the Dream of Red Mansions, he also became a US National Academy of the Arts and Humanities on account of these researches, compare to his fruitful research, the academic has little study on him, among those study, most of them are focused on his translation and study of Journey to the West, while there is no specific study in his research of Dream of Red Mansion, this article focuses on his late study of the Sinology, sort out his character of his Sinology study by going through his study of Journey to the West and Dream of Red Mansions, which he spend a great effort on.The article concludes the following parts:Part one, The introduction describes the origin and going through his current research state.Part two, inspect his life and his academic history, and briefly gather the western philosophical doctrine that he has. These materials make his image vividly on the paper, make the research easier and allow more Chinese reader to get to know him.Part three, inspect his parallel study method of Sinology, his main method are: establish his own research view in the comparison of both Chinese and western reviewers; observe his literature research in the comparison of Chinese and western literature works.Part four, find out the unique position of rhetoric in Chinese literature in comparison of China and western. Anthony C. Yu pays a great attention about religious meanings and other research characters in his Sinology study, to clarify those characters; we can see the determination of Yu devoting himself into the study of Chinese classic literature and dig the deeper meaning of them.Part five, focused on sorting out the translating character of Journey to the west in historical and cultural context, to find out Yu’s insisting on Alienation theory in translation through the brief introduction of his translation and the ideas and strategy of translate.Last part, to give an overall review of the Sinology research character which is under the choose of his own subjective view, and find out the uniqueness of Yu’s Sinology research.
