Under the background of in-depth development of international and information technology in the world, if medical workers were to scale the heights of technical expertise, they should constantly learn new technologies with international standards. EMP is a kind of important media. Medical workers could understand the forefront information and expand to international professional field by it. EMP is considered as an important branch of special field of English (ESP), which is often applied to some aspects, such as foreign medical literature reading、exchanges of high academic meeting、 medical research translation、medical writing (SCI papers)、medical ward rounds with bilingual language、teaching with bilingual language、service for foreign patients and others. Medical English terminologies play an important role in Medical English learning. Medical English terminologies have the features of professional and complex jargon, which cover a wide range for involving dozens of medical-related categories with a large number. With the rapid advancement of new diseases、new treatment means and a lot of discovered new viruses, the number of medical English terminology is rapidly increasing. Learners generally consider Medical English terminology as jerky and difficult. It is hard to remember and difficult to expand. Adopting traditional learning methods, such as repeating memory、copying、recitation、translation and others, those spend a lot of energy and time. The learning effectiveness is so bad that learners often feel upsetting. So the study of learning strategies on medical English terminology is particularly important. Meanwhile, the study of English vocabulary learning strategy is a prerequisite for medical English terminology learning strategies. The study of foreign learning strategy is a prerequisite for English vocabulary learning strategy. At present, the study of domestic foreign language learning strategy, the theory researches are not deep enough to expand it, the research single objects(that focus on college students、primary/high school students etc), the narrow range of study, the less research variables. The paper had chosen all residencies (total 85), who were recruited by First-Rate Hospital in recent five years as research objects. They were 27-35 year old, who had participated in provincial residency standardized training, including English language training. They had been working in First-Rate Hospital and enjoyed better platform of clinical, research and teaching with a higher starting point of development. On the initial stage of their career, they need to have more solid knowledge with the use of medical English terminology as language media for absorbing international forefront of medical knowledge. After adequately introducing the basic characteristics of medical English terminology, this paper combined with the theories of foreign language vocabulary learning strategies for research analysis. In this paper, the methods were based on questionnaires and interviews. It mainly discussed four issues:(1) During 85 residencies participated in physician standardized training from 2010 to 2015 in Xiaogan Central Hospital, how to use learning strategies on medical English terminology?(2)In the residency’s learning strategies, what are the frequencies of various learning strategies?(3)According to the above investigation, what are the differences of learning strategies between good learners and poor learners?(4) What are the differences of learning strategies between research physician and clinician? The Study used SPSS 17.0 statistical software for data analysis to find whether the results were statistically significant or those were not. The paper had explored learning strategies of medical English terminology in clinical、research and teaching practice effectively. The Results of this study as follow:(1) The residency’s external motivation of learning terminology is better than their internal motivation. Few residencies are really interested in medical English. They recognize that medical English terminology is a language tool in order to achieve their needs and objectives. Their learning purposes are very clear.(2) The residencies think that learning strategies are very crucial, which were used frequently. There are the top three strategies of them:cognitive strategies, affective strategies, memory strategies, and then compensation strategies, the last of two strategies: meta-cognitive strategies and social strategies.(3) Learning strategies of the poor learners are not less than those of the good learners. They are actively trying to change their difficulties in learning. The most obvious features of the good as follow:They are adept at using cognitive strategies and compensation strategies with more efficiency, but less use of mechanical memory and translation. They are independent on learning and actively participate in the use of language and communication, especially focus on the situation of using language.(4) To analyze between Research physician and clinician, the situation of their learning strategies and styles were researched by the paper. Their memory strategies、 cognitive strategies、compensation strategies are convergent, it is no significant difference. Their meta-cognitive strategies, social strategies, affective strategies were significantly different.According to the above findings, this paper proposes the corresponding revelation in clinical teaching. It is in order to study the future development of continuing medical education with certain help.
