The thesis focused on the learning and teaching ancient Chinese words of overseas students in advanced stage. With the development of teaching Chinese to foreigners, more and more students had began to ask for higher stage Chinese courses. They are not satisfied with basic intercourse competence, and need making progress in the all aspects of listening, speaking, reading and writing. The modern Chinese words related to the ancient Chinese words, and the ancient Chinese words are a necessary part of Chinese learning. Learning the words for the overseas students could not only help them in enlarging vocabulary and developing reading and writing, also help them adapt to Chinese culture and custom.The thesis is consisted of four parts. Chapter one is mainly talking about the background and meaning of the research. Besides, on the basis of a summary of the known academic conclusion, the appropriate methods of research had been used.Chapter two aims to the teaching meaning of the ancient Chinese words and the problems existed in practical teaching. Those students who already had studied Chinese for or more than three years could develop their language skills in grammar, vocabulary and communication skills from learning ancient Chinese words. In addition, considering that language and culture are related and influenced by each other, learning the ancient Chinese words is helpful to cultural studying. Some words reflecting culture are propitious to externalize some abstract conception and decrease the misunderstanding of culture gap. The focus of practical teaching should be the words which often muddled with modern Chinese words. Some monosyllabic words in modern Chinese language could only be morphemes to be a part of words. Enhance their knowledge may help them reading and get used to the way Chinese are accustomed to express.Chapter three mainly talks about the problems in the teaching and learning of ancient Chinese words. Combined with the investigation, the input hypohesis has been used in textbook, college course students’ characters research and some solution to these issues had been raised.Chapter four is a brief conclusion of the whole thesis which emphasized the importance of ancient Chinese words teaching and learning and the problems exsist in it. At the end of this part, the shortages of it and the hope of helping the further research have been presented.
