Following China's economy development,the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language has become very popular in recent years internationally.Foreign students are not only enthusiastically interested in learning the language,they also want to learn Chinese culture as well.This is evidenced by the acknowledgment that Chinese culture and ancient poems as presented on the International stage by the wonderful performance by foreigners on the TV programs such as ShiCiDaHui,JingDianYongLiuChuan.The culture,which is presented in ancient poetry,provides a large amount of material and research perspectives for the teaching of Chinese as a foreign language.This paper classifies the culture as it is presented in ancient poetry,analyzes the survey results,identifies the problems of teaching the culture in Ancient Chinese Poetry classroom and propose the corresponding teaching strategies.The main body of the paper is divided into four parts:The first part defines and classifies the Cultural Teaching in Ancient Poetry.This will be accomplished using the textbooks to find examples of ancient poems that are common in teaching Chinese as foreign language by classifying the cultural elements evident in ancient poetry;dividing them into architectural,institutional,food,regional,festival and animal and plant cultures by providing a brief overview of these cultures.The second part discusses the problems that exists in cultural teaching of ancient poetry.The problems are defined by four aspects.First,the Chinese language and education level of international students are different.The intermediate and advanced foreign students do not have any knowledge of basic Chinese cultural,however,this is not an obstacle in teaching the Chinese language by using ancient poetry for teaching purposes.Second,the international students' understanding of the China's culture in ancient poetry is uneven.It is easy for international students to understand the surface,but it is difficult understanding it deeply;also,there is a great difference between ancient and modern Chinese culture,and it is very easy to be Confused.Third;foreign students have two different learning motivations for ancient poetry and Chinese culture,active learning because of interest,and passive learning due to exams.Fourth,the textbook which is used in the classroom is not very attractive to the student.Such as overloaded with the interpretations,lack of engagement,no critical selection of those parts among the traditional culture that better define the culture.The design of the exercises in the textbook is not inspiring;the display of cultural content lacks new ideas.There are two causes for the problem: on the one hand the teacher may pay too much attention on the teaching of language elements,and secondly the subjectivity of students may not be fully utilized in the classroom;on the other hand,students may be more interested in studying the language elements and may ignore the learning of cultural elements.Students' cognitive and psychological behavior may be deferent,due to the difference of their geographic environment,historical background,life experience and national psychological experience.The third part puts forward the specific teaching countermeasures from the aspects of classroom teaching,extracurricular activities and curriculum setting,aiming at the problems existing in the cultural teaching in the ancient poetry.Classroom teaching strategies mainly include teaching methods,teaching content and teaching sessions;extracurricular activities will be enriched from three aspects: experiencing the corresponding cultural activities,offering poetry and cultural exchange seminars,and organizing poetry and cultural competitions;vary academic evaluation of students,such as change the single appraiser,apply Multiple Intelligences methods to evaulate students,and in order to promote the integrated development of students to evaluate them.The fourth part from the actual teaching of Chinese as a foreign language and puts forward the teaching design of the festival culture and animal culture in ancient poetry.
