As a cross-disciplinary study prevailed in the1990s, stylistics containing linguistics, principles of essays, aesthetics and psychology, has provided a new perspective for translation studies. From the angle of stylistics, translators probe into the theme of the text as well as its aesthetic effect instead of merely lingering over its literal level. This approach to the translation of culture-loaded words can be extraordinarily effective in translating culture-loaded words. Many essays before mainly analyzed how stylistics could help to retain the characteristics of Chinese culture or language when translating Chinese culture-loaded words. However, this thesis focuses on English culture-loaded words in the novel Better Dead written by a British author J. M. Barrier. Given the features of culture-loaded words, the stylistic study of translating them balances the theme and aesthetic effect of the target text, and adopts replacing method, reducing method, annotating method and remaining method, producing the best effect from the source text.
