Marine transport is an important part of marine culture. Due to the relatively backward seamanship in Qing Dynasty, the typhoon caused many shipwrecks occasionally. The paper focuses on Taiwan’s wrecks during the Qing Dynasty, analyses what triggered the wrecks, including natural cause and social background, explores the types of shipwrecks according to the ownership of the shipwrecks (official ship, privately owned boat and foreign ship), and discusses the relief and compensation policy and its development. This paper also explores the relationship between the sea god worship and shipwrecked, and the consolation which the sea god worship brings to the victims.
