The Study Of Narratology About Fine Art Documentary Power Of Art

In this paper, documentaries related to narration of painting subjects as "fine art documentaries". As the new favorite in the global documentary market in recent years, fine art documentaries have attracted tremendous attention. As an old documentary creation company, BBC is well known for its documentaries with extensive subjects and sophisticated production, among which fine art documentaries have been the focus of BBC’s production in recent years. It is worth mentioning that the fine art documentary "Power of Art" produced by BBC has won the Best Artistic Program for International Emmy Award, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts Award and many other great awards. This paper takes this documentary as the main object of study.In the21st century, with the rapid development of social economy, the art market has attracted the public’s increasing attention. The public’s desire for artistic knowledge has reached an unprecedented situation with an increasing number of film and television works narrating the history of art, artworks, fine art and music. Because of unique technical means and expression ways, documentaries appear extremely remarkable among film and television works popularizing artistic knowledge to the public. With the development of film and television production technology, both the narrative technique and creation concept of documentaries have presented different changes.With the fine art documentary "Power of Art" as the text of study and by using the study method of television narratology, this paper studies and discusses the narrative content and narrative technique of documentaries and reflects on the narrative strategy of emptiness and reality combination in the creation of documentaries based on the story-telling narration of documentaries. Moreover, through comparative analysis of the narrative technique between the branch "Van Gogh" of the documentary "Power of Art" and the drama film "Biography of Van Gogh", this paper compares the narrative characteristics of the two and discusses the differences between documentary narration and drama film narration from the aspects of narrative perspective, narrative structure and narrative content. Through difference analysis of the two, this paper explores the narrative creation of fine art documentaries.
