In 2012,gastronomic documentary named A bite of China 1 roared across people's horizon, leading a trend of making and playing of gastronomic documentary. For a while, numbers of TV stations followed suit to let this series of documentary shows all over the country, like A bite of Luoyang,A bite of Chongqing, etc. As a phenomenal documentary,A bite of China 1 had not only hit other creative teams' creative nerves, but also greatly inspired themselves to continue their creation.2 years later,A bite of China 2 came out.Although public praise slipped slightly,A bite of China 2 got good drades. However, the show of A bite of China 3 this year encountered waterloo. On douban.com,a major Chinese film portal, the film has a 3.7 rating out of 10 from the website's users, which were 9.3 and 8.4 for the first 2 seasons.Besides, season 3 has been denounced by the many Internet media. In this paper, starting from the narrative text itself, the author will apply narrative method,as well as literature research method, comparative study method, content analysis method, case study method and so on,to grasp the narrative strategies and changes of food documentaries, find out the reasons for their decline in word-of-mouth and try to find a balance between food introduction and cultural communication in food documentaries,so as to provide some suggestions for the development of food documentaries in China.Firstly, the author compared the contents of the three documentaries, and found that the narrative core of the three documentaries, the status of delicious food, was gradually weakening. The former two were diluted in the plot, while the latter was deliberately rendered. The lack of environmental shaping method in the characterization method made the third season eclipsed. Then, the author found that the narrative form of the three documentaries was gradually weakening. In the end,the author made an analysis of the reasons for the differences among the three narratives and put forward some suggestions on the narrative of Chinese food documentaries.
