The image of wearing bamboo hat is so rich in symbolism that people latter give kinds of explanations in their poems and articles. This paper concentrates on the interpretive process in history and its influence in the East Asian cultural sphere. The two images have visual expressions which play an active role in the process of meaning developing and disseminating. As for research method, this paper, basing on the materials reading analyzing, uses therapeutics and semiotics theory for reference.As two important figures in Chinese literary history and cultural history, Du Fu and Su Shi are the fruit of prosperous Tang and Song dynasty of the most brilliant civilization. The meaningful world of "wearing bamboo hat" of Du Fu and Su Shi is Tang and Song culture. This dress symbol aesthetic relates to political identity, and then goes a step further to the philosophical recognition. Besides, referring to the "Tang Song transition" theory and comparative method in History, this paper attempts to compare the subject of "wearing bamboo hat"-Du Fu and Su Shi. Moreover, there is a look in view the transformation of the group of "scholar" from Tang to Song, and tries to explain the phenomenon. The paper is composed by three chapters. Before that, the research reasons and methods are introduced, besides, the research history and current situation are reviewed. Three chapters are the body part of the paper. The first two of those analyze in details how the image of Du Fu and Su Shi wearing bamboo hat emerge and vary in the later. Through poems and paintings in different dynasty, both of chapters also discuss how meanings are accepted. In chapter three, the core part of this paper, explores the cultural significance behind the symbol of "wearing bamboo hat" on the basis of material reading and analyzing using comparative method.
