“Culture teaching in TCSL” refers to culture teaching in TCSL,where cultureteaching and TCSL are integrated greatly. To improve the Culture teaching in TCSL,we must pay attention to the study on integrated culture in language teaching and makeacademic research on culture teaching in TCSL in a unique way. As we know, the studyof culture teaching in TCSL started from1980s’ when much importance is attached toknowledge of language. In recent years, although increasingly special study on cultureteaching is caused by the promotion of Confucius Institute and Chinese teaching,studies on teaching methods of Lao-tzu are rare and limited. However, the Lao-tzu’seducation thoughts has a great influence on culture teaching.In this paper, the first chapter introduces the background of this study, the currentsituation of this study, the purpose, scope and methods of this study. Meanwhile, itexplains the reason of this study and points out the innovations of the study. Thesecond chapter summarizes the teaching methods by analyzing the book DAO DEJING, including educational aim, educational principle, educational content andteaching methods, which provides support for the next study on culture teaching inTCSL. In the third chapter, the teaching methods of Lao-tzu is regarded as the criterionof teacher, student, teaching material in the practical culture teaching. This analysisincludes the standard of teachers’ behavior and the attitude of students, and it tries toput forward suggestions to solve some problems in the practical teaching. The fourthchapter proves the teaching methods of Lao-tzu is indeed has its value by collecting thevocabularies, sentences and exercises in the Intermediate Reading Course (I),(II) ofDeveloping Chinese (2nd Edition) and Culture Interpretation of China(A AdvancedReader I). The fifth chapter points out that the negative factors of Lao-tzu’s teachingmethods, so that we should better talk the educational thought of Lao-tzu withdialectical thinking. It’s also noticed that the research on culture teaching in TCSLneeds to learn from other subjects, emphasize the interdisciplinary consciousness in thestudy, and mobilize all the favorable factors to promote the development of the causeof teaching Chinese culture to foreigners. The last chapter makes a summary of the fulltext that Lao-tzu’s teaching methods can provides reference for Chinese cultureteaching such as his imitation of nature, human nature and his education to make their own peace of mind, with no distractions; the "Silence" is in the perception of Chineseculture condition. In the new era, Chinese ancient philosophy is useful always.Although the teaching methods of Lao-tzu is not the main ideology, it containseverything as the same as the “Tao”. This is why many Chinese and foreignphilosophers are interested in the study of philosophy and the teaching methods ofLao-tzu. This wise man teaches people to be selfless and follow the rules of morality.But the negative factors of his philosophy influences his teaching thoughts as well.Based on the above talking, if we were to take a positive attitude and a dialecticalthinking in the study, we should obtain the beneficial enlightenment in teachingChinese as a foreign language.
