This paper briefs the development track of Wan Laiming’s animated movies in timeline,and does empirical study of his animated movies from the perspective of movie appreciation. Inthis way, the material change of his animated movie arts can be identified, which is a processfrom the prototype to the maturity.Chapter1totally analyzes and summarizes the objective, significance and research status,figuring out the research methodology and ideology to examine Mr. Wan’s artistic style ofanimated movie, and extracting the innovations and key points of this study, in order to presentthe research value of this paper.Chapter2mainly studies the exploration of animation art from1920s to1950s. Throughthe trial of his early artistic activities, Mr. Wan had a well-founded knowledge of the productionflow of animated movie. In his early trials, Mr. Wan imitated the model of European andAmerican animated movies, and created a series of short animated movie, which were in themesof product promotion, humor and entertainment. However, with the breakout of Anti-JapaneseWar, Mr. Wan produced some animated movies in the theme of war, as prompted by theprevalent trend at that time. Particularly of the Princess Iron Fan, known as the black-and-whiteanimated movie, marked the Chinese tendency to harness national elements in movie productionand diversified the artistic styles of world animated movie, thereby breaking the deadlock thatChina’s animation market was predominated by European and American animated movies.Within the period of Liberation War, the unrest forced Mr. Wan to continue the work of Chineseanimated movies in Hong Kong, regardless of the long distance. In this period, Mr. Wan touchedthe fine arts of live action movies, from which he mastered the practical experience of moretechniques of movie arts, though Chinese animation remained in stagnation, which was theprelude to his comeback to Chinese animated movies.Chapter3mainly studies Mr. Wan’s promotion ofChinese animated movie art since1960s.At that time, the policies of culture and art invigorated the development of various arts, quicklyattracted a lot of movie studios and professionals, which solidified the foundation for the achievements of Chinese animated movies. Besides the color short animated movies which weredirected by Mr. Wan, he also produced The Monkey King, known as a long color animatedmovie. In view of its elevated artistic attainment, this paper chooses The Monkey King as themain research object, and divides it into three parts. First, the technique of expression of themeand narration in animation art; second, the artistic technique of expression in static pictures; andthird, the component factors of animated movie language. By applying these techniques ofexpression, Mr. Wan’s elevated artistic style in animated movies can be unveiled to the audience.Chapter4focuses on the communication and transmission of Mr.Wan’s artistic ideas inChinese animated movies. Byextracting the nutrients inMr.Wan’s animated movies, the intrinsicmodel of his components in Chinese animated movies can be identified, which is conductive tothe artistic exchange and promotion of Chinese contemporary animation nationwide or evenworldwide.
