| The present research takes as its study subject the core claims of IM—thebasic idea is that an attribute of a speech act can stand for the speech act itself.Though no doubt has been cast on its achievements, IM theory is not as perfect as itsfounders have expected. And this leads immediately to the theory’s interpretativeinadequacy including its broadness, macrocosm, conventionality and vagueoperation, etc. This paper aims at constructing the micro-level “attribute enforcementassociation†model, which a highly-specific and constrained attribute inferentialmodel based on the amended version of the original IM and blending theory toimprove the original macro-level metonymy operation. Specifically, this paperreforms the concept and the partition of two cognitive domains in IllocutionaryMetonymy, including clarifying crucial concepts in attribute micro-model, realizingthe counter classification of source domain and target domain, modifying theinferential objectives of attribute model, establishing construal mechanism inhearer’s perspective, unifying construal model of both speakers and hearers, abolishing proposition inference representation, consolidating attribute inferencemechanism. It is expected that not only can IM’s maneuverability and explanatorypower be promoted in this manner, but also the applicability should be extended intoa larger area of linguistic phenomena owing to the proposed model.Through the blending and adapting other linguistic theories for reference, including mental models theory and the blending theory, in order to prove therationality of attribute operation, to improve the macro-level metonymy operation ofIllocutionary Metonymies, this paper aims at constructing the “attribute enforcementassociation†model by supplementing the original Illocutionary Metonymy theory. Inaddition, this paper will analyze micro-operation level of Illocutionary Metonymies, in order that the model not only has stronger explanatory power of a larger area oflinguistic phenomena, but also has more powerful maneuverability compared withthe existing reasoning mechanism. This paper is divided into six parts. Chapter one explains research backgroundand hypothesis, etc. Chapter two is literature review, provides academic backgroundfor analysis of Illocutionary Metonymies. Chapter three is theoretical framework, aiming to confirm study target on the basis of the existing theory and maketheoretical innovation. Chapter four is the research result. It emphasizes therationality, validity and feasibility of the attribute-enforcement association modeland interprets the reverse partitioning of cognitive domains in attribute-enforcementassociation model of Illocutionary Metonymy. At the same time, it supplements theoperation of matrix domains. Chapter five briefly discusses the focus modification ofattribute reasoning targets and cognitive effect diversity of attribute reasoning. Thelast part is conclusion which reiterates the contribution and deficiency. |
