Qualia In The Operation Of The Attribute-enforcement Association Model Of Illocutionary Metonymy

By virtue of the deficiency of the combination of mind philosophy principle “qualia” with illocutionary metonymy research in cognitive linguistics,the aim of this paper is to conduct a comprehensive qualia analysis based on illocutionary metonymy and its attribute model.Qualia principle being the philosophical guideline,enforcement association attribute model being the concrete operational and construal model,the alignment of qualia and illocutionary metonymy in specific speech meaning construal is clearly analyzed and explained.This paper proposes that qualia is the operational and essential guide of attribute model,and the enforcement-association attribute model is the effective support and specific embodiment of qualia.Metonymy has long been considered as a rhetorical method.It was not until the 1980 s that Lakoff and Johnson proposed that metonymy is a cognitive phenomenon that exists in everyday language and thinking and is a profound human cognitive mechanism.Only then has the metonymy research opened a new era,showing a vast expanse of research prospects.Classic metonymy research theory as follows,Lakoff idealized cognitive model,Langacker metonymy reference-point phenomenon theory,Kovecses & Radden psychological channel hypothesis,Barcelona' s connecting of metonymy with schema theory.The distance between metonymy and other disciplines is getting closer and closer."Viewing the collection of the opinions of the scholars,we can find that the current study on metonymy is presenting such a trend: First,the field of metonymy is expending,the explanation of the research on metonymy is getting more persuasive;second,there's still lack on the comprehensiveness and depth of metonymy Research.The purpose of this paper is to analyze the research of metonymy from the perspective of qualia,and to explore the relationship between metonymy and qualia.The paper also proposed a new way to study metonymy.As a contemporary philosophy of high attention and difficulty,quaila is essential to the understanding of the nature of consciousness.Combining qualia with metonymy——a cognitive mechanism,the exploring area of metonymy can be further opened up.In this essay,the author will follow the tide of interdisciplinary research on metonymy and attempt to combine the qualia of mental philosophy with metonymic phenomenon.The analytical methods used in this paper are material-based and are qualitative and combined with hypothetical arguments.The hypothesis in this paper can be briefly described as: Using qualia to better understand the emergence,development,and interpretation of illocutionary metonymy.Chapter One presents the background,motivation,hypothesis and purpose of this research and preliminarily mentions the insufficiency of the original attribute hypothesis.Chapter Two gives a general summary on the contributions,inadequacies and referential parts of the IM theory based on the literature review.This part also presents the theoretical framework which works as initial preparation and theoretical theory of the construction for the analysis of qualia in attribute-enforcement association model.Chapter Three introduces the research methods and sources of corpus,proposing that the difficulty of this paper lies in the objective analysis of the role of the of qualia in the attribute enforcement association operation of IM.Chapter Four focuses on the results of the research,emphasizing the guiding role of the qualia in the attribute enforcement association operation of IM.Chapter Five discusses the influence of contexts on the qualia and attribute model operation.The conclusion discusses the contribution and deficiencies of this research.Qualia is the key to human cognition.Understanding the qualia can help understand the operation and causes of illocutionary metonymy.The analysis of the qualia principle as the leading guide of the operation of the enforcement-association attribute model also helps to prove the existence of the qualia.This is another justification of the rationality and validity of the enforcement-association attribute model of illocutionary metonymy from the perspective of mental philosophy.And it at the same time provides a new direction for metonymy research.
