This is a practice report based on the guide interpreting task conducted by theauthor in the9·18Historical Museum. In this task, the author interpreted presentationof the docent in the9·18Historical Museum to a British client on spot and got thefeedback from this client, which was written in this report. This report takes the taskas its central study object. By analyzing individual case in this on-spot interpretationin an all dimensional way, the author hopes the report will get common copingstrategies and principles which can bring benefits to other participants in thisprofession.This report totally includes four chapters. The first chapter is Task Description.It introduces the basic information, defines task features and summarizes the report’stheme.Chapter Two and Chapter Three constitute the main part of this report. ChapterTwo is Process Description. It gives an introduction of the task preparation andfeedback from the client. To do this is mainly to make the readers be clear of thenecessity of pre-stage preparation and significance of generalization. Besides, theinterpreting method and purpose are also introduced in this chapter. Chapter Three isthe Case Study, which categorizes and analyses the difficulties encountered in theconcrete sentences. They are note-taking problem, lacking of background knowledge,cross-cultural shock. Meanwhile, the author explores the relative coping strategies:put main idea first, enhance the tactics of pre-stage preparation and improve itseffectiveness, strengthen the sense of cross-culture communication and accumulateduring daily study, in order to improve the interpreters’ general competence.The last part is the Conclusion of this report. It generalizes what has beenobtained from this practice from four aspects. They are as the following:cross-cultural communications and interpreting study, note-taking in interpretinglearning, tactics for pre-stage preparation and the role of interpreting practice in exposing the interpreter’s weaknesses and deepening the understanding of interpretingtheories. Besides, it presents the limitations of the study and their causes as well.
