Rooted in the translation concept of "foreignization" and treading on the heels of "cultural turn","cultural intervention theory", having absorbed the essences of "deconstruction" embodied in the infinite interpretation on texts, conducts so-called "creative treason" for the achievement of maximum overall fidelity to the system to be constantly amplified where the ST has been nestled by "interventional" means so as to have "the other culture" delivered.Apart from an omnibearing guide for practices, plaeing the description over the translation of modern Chinese prose into this theory’s framework could also provide references on criteria for the evaluation plus criticism of Chinese total prose, thus to offer inspiration to its entire literary translation as well as cultural dissemination.This dissertation comprises of seven chapters:Chapter one sketches the main characteristics of modern Chinese prose together with the status quo of the research on its rendering by Zhang Peiji;In the second Chapter, the author highly appreciates the accomplishments of Zhang by summing up his three tactics:"amplification", the "achievement for aesthetic rhythm by shifting", along with the "reproduction of humorous effect via slang"; however, he still would have been deemed as a translator belonging to domestication domain due to his bias emphasis on the linguistic level and the fluency of TT;Through a retrospective snapshot of the diversified approaches registered in history, the third Chapter leads in the "cultural intervention theory" in terms to its emergence, definition and research status, with Chinese traditional culture in particular discussed within its incredible vast scope;By taking four excerpts from When Grandpa died by Xiao Hong as instances, Chapter four gives a detailed demonstration on the way through which the emotional culture of the Chinese conveyed under the guidance of such theory from a variety of perspectives, such as Intertextuality, Anaphora, plus Neo-Conversational Implicature Theory;In the fifth Chapter, via four levels---diction, syntax, discourse and comprehensive strategies,1,300Yuan by Ba Jin serves as another case for analysis on how China’s female culture in prose transmitted by means of Subjectivity of Translator, Feminist Translation Theory tracing male chauvinism all the way to male narcissism among numerous of others;In addition, before giving her own translations for each excerpt in the two texts mentioned with subtle and delicate elaborations, the author has criticized the editions from Zhang Peiji with the assistance of diversified theories from literary, linguistics, psychology to translation theory itself, followed by a reflection from the vision of post-deconstructionism featuring the deconstruction over writer under a series of theories like Implied Readers by Walfgong Iser;Reiterating "foreignization" as the general principle for the rendering of modern Chinese prose, Chapter six has assembled four translation strategies, which might be entitled as Zero translation,"Resistant" literal translation,"ST-oriented" liberal translation plus "culture-oriented" variation translation;Before illuminating its blanks and potentials, the last Chapter has summarized the theoretical significance of this theory and its directive role in the translation of prose as well as the entire literary.
