Jinshuyinyi(《晋书音义》)was written by He Chao In the Tang Dynasty. This book fix on the pronunciation and meanings of characters in Jinshu(《晋书》). It is an important material for us to study the phonetics of that time. This research is based on the phonetic materials in Jinshuyinyi, including Tangential and Phonetic. By comparing the Phonological status in Jinshuyinyi and in Guangyun (《广韵》), we can see the diffenrence of phonology between Jinshuyinyi and Guangyun, and then come up with the Phonological features and Phonological structure of Jinshuyinyi. This paper consists of Preface, six chapters and Appendix. The preface mainly introduces the background and significance of this research. and the existing research results were reviewed. finally, it describes the research methods and ideas of this paper briefly.Chapter One is about the textual research of Jinshuyinyi, including the author and his life, how did this book be born and its editions. Then it explains the rules of this book and how we choose the materials.Chapter Two is about the initial consonant system of Jinshuyinyi. We discuss the features of consonants in the order of Labial, Linguals, Dentals, Velars and gutturals, finding that the initial consonant system of Jinshuyinyi is almost the same as Guangyun. At the end of this chapter, we discussed the problems of devoicing and constructing the quasi prononciation.Chapter Three is about the vowel system of Jinshuyinyi. First, we compare the Phonological status of every word in Jinshuyinyi with that in Guangyun. Then, we focus on the discussing that whether Chongniu has amalgamated, what’s the performance of Chongyun and if the labial consonants have a tendency combining with vowels. Comparing with Guangyun, the vowel system of Jinshuyinyi has the following characteristics:1. The first grade rhyme of "Dong"东has coalesced with "Dong"冬.2. The rhyme "Zhi"支"Zhi"脂and "Zhi"Z have coalesced.3. The rhyme "Yu"鱼and "Yu"虞have coalesced.4. The open rhyme of "Tai"泰has coalesced with "Hai"'.5. The open rhyme of "Guai"夬has merged with "Jie"皆.6. The entering tone of "Shan"删and "Shan"山have coalesced.7. The rhyme "Xian"仙and "Xian"先have coalesced.8. The rhyme "Xiao"宵and "Xiao"萧have coalesced.9. The second grade rhyme of "Geng"庚has coalesced with "Geng"耕.10. The rhyme "You"尤and "You"幽have coalesced.11. the rhyme "Tan"覃and "Tan"谈have coalesced.Chapter Four is about the tone system of Jinshuyinyi. Some of the words in Jinshuyinyi has the same consonant and vowel with its Tangential or Phonetic, but the tones are different. They are mostly two different Pronunciations at this situation. The phonetic system of Jinshuyinyi still consists of four tones.Chapter Five offers the syllabary of homophones about Jinshuyinyi.Chapter Six is a conclusion which summarizes the phonetic features of Jinshuyinyi. And it also discusses the definition of phonetic system of Jinshuyinyi, that it is based on the standard language of the Luoyang area, remaining some pronunciations of old times.
