As a great Polish composer, Chopin is an outstanding master of romantic music, and he has composed a large number of works with patriotic spirit in his life. These works are not only abundant in genres and full of profound and complex emotions, but also tightly linked with the tragic destiny of his motherland. Chopin’s sadness and melancholy for the tragic fate of his motherland are revealed by his musical compositions, which are filled with both the spirit for inspiring people to flight and a deep longing for his motherland and relatives. Scherzo is a very distinctive type of creation in Chopin’s works of this period, with four in total. His magnificent, rich, and profound Scherzos have been endowed with deep philosophy meaning and complex thought. Chopin has made significant contribution to the development of scherzo genre. He can innovate boldly in both writing techniques and emotional connotation, and has greatly exceeded the former composers and created his own style. It is these four compositions that have made new revolutionary breakthroughs in the field of scherzo. Among them, Chopin’s first scherzo, Scherzo in B Minor, can be considered to be the turning point of his creative style as well as his representative work. While changing the lively and enthusiastic characteristics in Warsaw period, this composition has began to integrate tragic factors and dramatic conflict into scherzo. Based on analyzing the creation background and musical structure of Chopin’s Scherzo in B Minor, the paper puts forward the unique emotional connotation expressed by this composition and its research significance.
