Change The Part Of Speech In Legal English Literature Translation

This is a translation report of the Chap1-3from Bankruptcy and Related Lawwritten by David G. Epstein. In1979, US Bankruptcy Code of new revisionimplemented which is a prominent representative of modern bankruptcy law system.The bankruptcy law aims to provide the remedies of consumer or commercialcreditors under such law when the debtor is unable or unwilling to pay.In the translation practice, the writer found that because of the different usingand division of parts of speech between English and Chinese, there is no one to onecorrespondence of part of speech between translated text and original text. And if thetranslator insists the use of the corresponding part of speech in translation, thetranslated text will be too blunt and in unconformity to the idiomatic expression ofChinese. When translating Bankruptcy and Related Law, the writer made thenecessary adjustment to the part of speech of both English and Chinese, andconsequently the translated text was in conformity to the reading habit of translatedtext readers to the maximum extent and transmitted the original messages to thetranslated text readers more efficiently. From two main classifications of notionalwords and function words, this report is trying to briefly summarize the part of speechin translation, and demonstrated the necessity and feasibility of part of speech in theEnglish-Chinese translation through instance analysis of translation to providereferenced theory and practice for the future translation of legal documents.
