Yu Debei started his literary creation in1984, and his representative work No10,Hangzhou Road has ever reached the height of classic writing. His mini-novels showordinary people’s concern in daily life on personal ideal, career pursuit, and personal emotionetc., reflecting the different problems in different growth stages when people growing. Itfocus on the attitude and feeling of growth in the growing stages, maximum digging the heroreal heart. In his novels studying people’s culture character and psychology, he digs theactual existence of deep human spirit. Yu’s mini-novels are characterized by the obviousregional features. He uses fresh, natural narrative and intricate plot to chant the love song oflife for ordinary people; just like “smile with tears”, and it gives us strength of sensationalshock.Yu Debei’s mini-novels give attention to ordinary people, return to one’s true inner self,and highlight the personal growth. The essay takes the growing narrative research as thecutting point, analyses the narrative content and feature on growing course in the mini-novels.From the contents, they show the comprehensive problems and the unique narrative modeand narrative style of Yu Debei’s mini-novels trigger out the concern of value of min-novels.Chapter One: the finding of growth in mini-novels. It mainly abstracts the developmentand direction of mini-novels in domestic and foreign countries. It highlights the relationshipbetween people and society and the heroes’ inner conflicts. It is these conflicts and problemsthat change the heroes when they are growing. In a word, Yu Debei highlights the growth of loneliness, pain, the text ofthe narrative in the hero’s choice and sticking to the road to self-improvement.Chapter Three: the study on growing narrative features of mini-novel. The narration ofeveryday life sections displays the narrative features, which are the misplacement or absenceof the guiding character and the transferring or weakening of the companion during thegrowing process of the leading character. It narrates the loneliness and persistence in growththrough the instant awareness in the growing process. Through the wide narrative angle,“oilpainting” setting, vivid narrative structure, Yu’s mini-novels achieve great artistic attainmentwith Northeast China customs features. From the analysis of his works, it is not difficult tofind the creation value and research space of Yu Debei’s mini-novels.Since the reform and opening up, Chinese mini-novels have won a booming period.However, the study on mini-novels especially on the mini-novel writers and works relativelylags behind. The lack in the interaction between creation and theoretical research limits thespecifications and breakthrough of mini-novels. To some extent, it also affects the theoreticalconstruction and development of mini-novels. The essay aims to study the text contents andthe narrative features of Yu Debei’s mini-novels, then to arouse more people to give attentionto Yu Debei’s mini-novels and research theoretically to mini-novel writers and works.
