During the "Two Sessions" each year, namely National People’s Congress and Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, Chinese Premier meets with journalists from both home and abroad and takes their questions. Expressions used by Premier Li Keqiang are lively with more Chinese characteristics. But since the time allowing for interpretation is very short with a huge pressure, interpreters must choose effective strategies. This thesis is guided by the interpretive theory and uses the transcript of Premier Li Keqiang’s press conferences in2013and2014for analytical study. The author has analyzed the transcript of the interpretation and summarized the appropriate strategies suitable for interpreting Chinese-specific expressions, including finding equivalency, compression, free translation, explanation, sentence structuring, cultural consciousness, and dealing with humorous sentences. The two sessions serve as a window for the world to know China better. All ministries hold their own press conference. Different speakers touch upon different types of Chinese-specific expressions. These are all in need of good interpretation. Against this backdrop, this thesis is of great significance.
