As China’s technological exchanges with the rest of the world are increasing, most technological journals require technological papers, including papers on electromechanics, to include an English abstract. English abstract, therefore, has been an integral part of papers on electromechanics and is playing an important role in Sino-foreign technological exchanges. However, improper translation and translation errors are common due to English deficiency or inattention of authors. In response to that, this thesis explores theories that can support the English translation of abstracts of academic papers on electromechanics.Guided by the skopos theory, this thesis looks at the English translation of abstracts of academic papers on electromechanics from the angles of words, sentences and the whole text to analyze how to improve translation. The thesis also probes into some common principles and techniques of the English translation of abstracts of academic papers on electromechanics and points out some common errors that deserve attention.
