This paper is a translation report about English-Chinese translation on English writing.The first two chapters of On Writing Well will be the source texts written by William Zinsser who was a prestigious American writer,editor,critic,and educator.This book has been enjoying great popularity for providing readers with tons of fabulous writing suggestions and its special writing styles.This report is based on Vermeer's Skopostheory,and then adopts some specific translation strategies and methods to translate the source text under the guidance of the three principles of Skopostheory,namely,Skopos Rule,Coherence Rule,Fidelity Rule.And the applied methods are amplification,omission,inversion of word order,voice conversion,sentence division,linear translationThis report includes five chapters.The first chapter is a brief introduction to the significance and objective of this translation report;The second chapter introduces the source text,including the background and content of the source text as well as its linguistic features form lexical and syntactic level;The third chapter briefly introduces the theoretical basis,namely,Vermeer's Skopostheory;The fourth chapter is case study,mainly analyzing how to utilize specific translation methods to realize the three rules of Skopostheory;The last chapter is a conclusion which primarily summarizes findings as well as the accumulated valuable lessons and experiences.The author sincerely hopes that this report would give a little help and inspiration to those learners of English writing.
