In1990s, the introduction and publishing of children’s literature undergo anincreasing prosperity never seen before. During the21st century, a large number ofworks of children’s literature have been translated. However, few can reallyenlighten the readers’ mind either in content or in language. Most of the translatedversions are not very good with poor quality. Entering into the21st century,excellent literary works is of great importance for the healthy growth of children.What’s more, under the background of new era, children are quite different as inthe past. So theory construction for children’s literature translation needs furtherimprovement.This thesis attempts to employ Reception Aesthetics to children’s literaturetranslation, in order to explore children’s literature translation strategies.Reception Aesthetics offers great inspiration and reference to children’s literaturein translation studies. It focuses on the role of the reader, and that only when theliterary works are understood and accepted by the reader, can its aesthetic valueand social function be realized.Using Reception Aesthetics as a theoretical framework, the thesis attempts toexplore strategies for children’s literature translation through the author’stranslation practice of A Little Princess, from the aspects of lexical, syntax andrhetoric. The thesis consists of five chapters. The first chapter describes researchbackground, significance, research questions and methods, as well as theorganization of the thesis. Chapter two is the literature review, in which anoverview of children’s literature translation studies at home and abroad, as well asReception Aesthetics in the field of literary translation is offered. Chapter threemainly applies Reception Aesthetics into children’s literature translation on basisof its features, including application of readers’ status, expectation of vision andvacancy of the text respectively. Chapter four explores the strategies for children’sliterature translation in the light of Reception Aesthetics exemplified bytranslating A Little Princess. And the last chapter is the conclusion.Finally, I hope that this thesis can provide a new way for translators to studytranslation of children’s literature from English, and probe the translating criterionwhen translators handle with Children’s Literature translation. The study of the strategies of children’s literature translation will be helpful for communicationsbetween translations and children readers and make them feel the beauty of sourcelanguage and the exotic culture, nurtured by the aesthetic components intranslation, enjoy the charm of literature and finally grow up healthily....
