The Great Economic Crisis in1929-1933has always been a hot topics about theAmerican history at home and abroad, and the study of historical development of politicalparties is also blatant today. For the American Communist Party, it was not only anopportunity from the history, but also enormous challenges when the Great Depression came.However, the study of the U.S.A. communist party during the Great Depression in China’sacademic circles is still somewhat weak, the author is deeply interested in this subject, anddecide to do a superficial analysis of the Communist Party of the United States during theGreat Depression on the basis of academic results that had been summarized, at he same time,the author want to compare notes on the results of the activities and work carried out by theCommunist Party of the United States and what caused these things happened. Theoreticallyspeaking, we can enrich the academic achievement on the Communist Party of the UnitedStates during the Great Depression, by the way it can enhance the author’s academic researchlevel significance through this essay, it can also be provided for our party in governing andrejuvenating experience in a real sense.In regard to the theme of the Communist Party of the United States during the greatdepression, this essay is divided into six parts to discuss and study.The first chapter briefly introduces the history course of CPUSA and the great crisisduring1929-1933, besides, this chapter also involves in the discussion about the great crisisof the CPUSA, American Communist Party is an party which history is more than90years. Itwas in a state of quiet most of the time, while it had to bear restriction and oppression fromthe authorities, only fugitive developments could be achieved during a special period. As forthe economic crisis, this article then briefly describes the background, process andcharacteristics and its social impact. Discussion on the great depression between the CPUSAwas relatively thin, they mainly dissected the reason for the arrival of the great depression,but, there was no systematical planning for specific work arrangement, CPUSA just hadsimple ideas. Policies during the great depression of American Communist Party werechanged and adjusted along with the instruction of the Comintern and the developments of its concrete implementation. As well as, this chapter focuses on paving way for the latter partswhich writes the activities of CPUSAduring the great economic crisis.Chapter II focuses on the United States Communist Party and the Comintern during thegreat depression. Their relations were a little complex. When the Comintern was connected tothe Communist Party of the United States, the former one both helped and hindered the latterdevelopment, which is more like the relationship between superior and subordinate. Threeaspects are mainly illustrated in this chapter which explain the relationship between theCommunist Party of the United States and Comintern during the great depression: factionalfighting within the party–The group of Rosengarten was cleared out of the party, CommunistParty of the United States established its policies during the crisis by instruction of theComintern, meanwhile,there economic ties between the Communist Party of the United Statesand Moscow, etc.The third section depicts the Communist Party of the United States and unemployedworkers during the great depression. The economic crisis from1929to1933led to theeconomic plunge of the United States, what’s more, a large number of company were closed,as a result, the first victims are unemployed, especially among unemployed workers. Duringthis period, there were mainly two activities carried by the Communist Party of the UnitedStates. They organized to mobilize demonstrations of unemployed workers and created theUnemployment Council. Finally, this chapter also analyzes why the American Communist’sfighting for unemployed workers failed.The fourth chapter describes the Communist Party of the United States and the tradeunion movement during the great depression. During this period, the trade unionmovement was important to Communist Party of the United States. however, it was a littledifferent, to respond to the requirements of Comintern, Communist Party of the UnitedStates gave up modifying work within the AFL, and turned to put into practices of dualUnion policy. In addition, there were also a significant measure, to establish the TradeUnity Union League. But, neither of them achieved good result. This chapter also did a brief explanation of what caused the trade union movement of Communist Party of theUnited States frustrated during the the crisis.Contents of the fifth chapter is the American Communist Party and blacks in the Southduring the great depression. This period, blacks in the South suffered exploitation andoppression most seriously. In response to the indicating of the Comintern that the CommunistParty of the United States should attach importance to blacks in the South, there were changesin the indifference to the Negro problem, the Communist Party of the United States started toorganize blacks in the South who would be potential power of their revolutionary struggle.During this period, the Communist Party of the United States took three influential measure:firstly, they tried to remove white chauvinistic and racist ideas within the party; the other onewas that, they involved in the Scottsboro case; and the third work was to organize the ShareCroppers’ Union and so on. The fifth chapter is the key section. More characters draws theScottsboro case in the text. At the end of this chapter the author also portrayed why the actionof Communist Party of the United States led the blacks in the South still unsuccessful.The sixth chapter, as the additional part of other activities of the American CommunistParty during the great depression, this section writes during the great depression actions takenagainst other social groups by the Communist Party of the United States during the greatdepression, it mainly includes: leading the Veterans’ National Allowances Entering, as well asleading farmers’ fighting, etc.
