Poverty brings challenges and problems to people’s life and prevents people from improving their living standards and realizing further developments. Therefore, poverty is our common challenge that we need to cope with hand in hand. Many developing countries are suffering from poverty, and the governments of these countries pay much attention to poverty reduction. The original text of this project is the article "Poverty Reduction Strategies in an Ethnic Minority Community:Multiple Definitions of Poverty among Khmer Villagers in the Mekong Delta, Vietnam". This article is published in Asian Social Science and focuses on poverty reduction among Khmer villagers in the Mekong Delta in Vietnam. China is the biggest developing country in the world, and many Chinese people in rural areas still find themselves in an impoverished situation. The poor population still accounts for a large proportion of the total population of some provinces in China. Therefore, the government of China works hard to reduce poverty. This article can not only call our attention to poverty reduction in Vietnam, but also provide some reference for China’s poverty reduction. The translator hopes that it could be of some help for China’s policymaking on poverty reduction. This project consists of two parts. The first part is the original text and its E-C translation. The translator finishes translating this part under the guidance of Nida’s functional equivalence theory. The second part is a critical commentary, which includes an introduction to the whole translation project and an analysis of the strategies used in dealing with the difficult points in translation at the lexical, syntactical and textual levels. At the end of the critical commentary, the author makes a summary of the entire project.
