Zhongtiao mountains base was the Kuomintang army’soutposts of the north China Anti-Japanese War and once pinneddown the four divisions of the Japanese army. According tothe study of the rise and fall of this area in the period of1938-1941,we can observe the separation and reunion among the threeforces (Yan Xishan, the Communist Party of China, Wei Lihuang) inthe war of Anti-Japanese in south of Shanxi. Therefore, this studysuggested that Zhongtiao mountains revolutionary base miniaturedthe relationship among various forces under the background ofChinese Anti-Japanese War. Besides, this study further analyzed thechanges of relationship between the Kuomintang and theCommunist Party and the Kuomintang internal relations. This studyseeks to conduct a comprehensive and systematic analysis to thefirst official base area behind enemy lines of the Kuomintang, inorder to ascertain the sequence of events about Zhongtiaomountains revolutionary base and enrich the weak link ofAnti-Japanese War history studies. In fact, the reason that the military of Kuomintang can defeatthe Japanese army’s mopping up in thirteen times and obtain the glory record of the zhongtiao mountains defensive war is itseffective base area construction. After the Kuomintang troopsstationed in the Zhongtiao Mountain, the military has carried onsnap reform and built zhongtiao mountains defense and strengthenthe army’s training and consolidation and supplies. In addition, theKuomintang military in Zhongtiao mountains and XiMengHui workedat the local regime, mass movement, economy, education, etc. withremarkable results. These measures made the Zhongtiaomountains revolutionary base present a thriving situation. Therewere a lot of benefits to the zhongtiao mountains Anti-Japanese War.During the battle to defend the Japanese forces, the Kuomintangmilitary in Zhongtiao mountains attacked on the Japanese forcesmany times and strongly supported to the positive battlefield inXuzhou and Wuhan. Meanwhile, the battle that the Kuomintangmilitary in Zhongtiao mountains repelled the Japanese forces’ largemopping up as many as13times also passed for the stories of thewar.Relative to the glory record of the Zhongtiao mountainsdefensive war, the disastrous battle of Zhongtiao mountains ofKuomintang troops would undoubtedly become a tear point of thebase area, thus Zhongtiao mountains revolutionary base almost lost. The Kuomintang troops suffered heavy casualties in the battle ofZhongtiao mountains and Chiang kai-shek called this battle "thebiggest shame in the Anti-Japanese War". However, why the formerMaginot Line existed only three years in north China and then wasoccupied? Actually, the comprehensive analysis of failure reasonsof Zhongtiaoshan must not only from the aspect of the battle, but rather by the entire zhongtiao mountains revolutionary basechanges to discuss. Of course, due to the war situation varing fromminute to minute, the accidental factor should not be paid no heed.Among them, the reduction of resistance enthusiasm of tripartitecollaboration (Wei Lihuang, the Communist Party of China, YanXishan), the lack of internal construction in Zhongtiao mountainsrevolutionary base, the disorder of kuomintang army’s commandsystem, adequate preparation of the Japanese army were allimportant factors in the failure of the Kuomintang army.In brief, on the study of Zhongtiao mountains revolutionarybase, it should combine the relationship between the Zhongtiaomountains defensive war and the battle of Zhongtiao mountains. Ingeneral, as one of the first base areas behind the enemy linesestablished by the Kuomintang, Zhongtiao mountains base played adecisive role. Zhongtiao mountains revolutionary base effectivelycontained a large number of Japanese troops. There was once ofgreat significance in defending the Kuomintang rear area, matchingthe positive battlefield and crushing the Japanese system of "UsingChinese to Subdue Chinese". In addition, the relationship betweenthe Kuomintang and the Communist Party of China inZhongtiaoshan was pretty good and also had a lot of cooperationbetween each other. The Kuomintang troops also supported thecommunist party of China’s guerrilla warfare in a certain extent.
