Among the discussion of energy and pollution, the clean and sustainable energy, such as natural gas, has become the hot issue in the 21st century, whose circulation places much reliance on the shipping industry. In order to discuss the prospect of Asian energy development and boost the cooperation between countries, International Energy Agency released a report called Developing a Natural Gas Trading Hub in Asia. The report made a particular analysis of Asian energy market, which is a profound guidance for related policies. Choosing the report as the text, the author translated the original English report into a Chinese version. Since the original report belongs to science and technology texts, which often have a vast number of subordinate clauses, with the inspiration of J.C.Catford’s translation concept, this report focused on the conversion of sentence patterns during the translation process. In order to achieve faithfulness, expressiveness and elegance, the attributive and adverbial clauses were translated into adjective, adverb or coordination respectively; the nominal clauses were translated into adjective or coordination. Having completed the translation, the author put forward some opinions, which hopefully will have inspiration for the translation of related text or the study in fields of shipping and energy.
