A Project Report On The Translation Of Measures Of Jiangsu Province On Administration Of The Motor Vehicle Drivers Training

As the supervisor of the author has undertaken the work of translating the local legislative texts organized by the Legal Affairs Office of Jiangsu Province, the author has the honor to take part in the trial translation of the Measures of Jiangsu Province on Administration of the Motor Vehicle Drivers Training. This report is completed under the guidance of Static Equivalence after the translation of the legal text. The Measures is a typical local legislative text, which features legal terms and standardized words, complex sentences and multiple coordinate structure, strict logic and formal style.The author carried out the first translation after his analysis of the original text and went on the re-translation with the guidance of static equivalence, which the author considered feasible and operational. In this paper, the author centers on the static equivalence on five aspects:words, formulaic language, nomination, sentences and information. Legal terms, words with specific legal meaning, and words with Chinese characteristics have already been fixed upon while for vague words, the same legal function can be realized through literal translation or amplification; formulaic language has its respective translation which has already accepted in common practice; nomination is the rule to demonstrate the formality of legal texts; complex sentences can be translated separately and the voice applied should realize the most equivalent translation; information should be equivalent both in quantity and quality, which requires the sentence structure balanced to ensure each information is transplanted without any loss or addition. All those methods aim to realize the same legal function of the original text through static equivalence.
