A Report On Legal Translation From The Perspective Of Static Equivalence Theory

The information law began to take shape in the 16th century.But it was in the 20th century that modern legal system was truly established.In China,the first information law about computer technology came out in the 1996.At present,to meet the needs and requirements of fast-developing information technology,it is necessary for China to make progress in the construction and improvement of information laws and regulations.Therefore,the translation work related to information law is particularly important.The materials of this practice report are two Australian information acts-National Security Information(Crim inal and Civil Proceedings)Act 2004 and Electronic Transactions Act 1999,both of which are from the information translation proj ect.This proj ect was undertaken by the School of Humanities of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications,which aims to provide reference for the research and development of China's information law.This report is divided into five sections.The first chapter is introduction.It mainly illustrates the background of this report,the information about this translation project and the research method that the author applies in this report.In the second chapter,the author analyzes the features of both English and Chinese legal text(especially legislative text).Accordingly,the author chooses four basic principles to follow in legal translation.The third chapter elaborates the static equivalence theory.The author first compares several translation theories commonly used in legal translation.Under the guidance of aforementioned translation principles,the author chooses static equivalence theory of Li Kexing as the theoretical basis.In the forth chapter,the author applies static equivalence theory to the translation and then summarizes the methods,so as to perform an overall analysis on the translation project at lexical,syntactic and textual level.In the last chapter,the author draws the conclusion,hoping to provide advice and ideas for legal translation and application of static equivalence theory.
