With the rapid development of science and technology and frequent international exchanges, there is an increasingly huge demand for interpreters. Technical interpreting is difficult, because it involves a lot of background knowledge and terminology in certain areas, which sounds obscure, even in Chinese, for laymen. Therefore, there is a trend to choose people majoring in science and engineering with a good command of English to undertake interpretation work in domestic market. English majors, who are, to some extent, lack of science and engineering background knowledge, should study how to have a place in the field of technical interpreting.Based on the author’s interpreting practices during her internship at Atlas Copco, the author concludes the difficulties and obstacles encountered, including inadequate grasp of terminology, lack of background knowledge and poor listening comprehension caused by Indian accent. In the light of her own practical experience as well as previous studies, the author puts forward corresponding solutions for these three difficulties, such as establishing classified glossary, effectively accumulating background knowledge with all sorts of resources, and summing up the characteristics of Indian accent, etc. The ending part summarizes the main content of the report and indicates the limitations of this report, which has certain implications in this area.
