Problems And Solutions In The Process Of Terminology Interpreting

Terminology interpreting is a great challenge to novice interpreters.The technical terms the author encountered in his interpreting practice for the Apple September Event are great in number,and belong to a variety of technical fields.They caused huge pressure in the author's listening effort and memory effort,and failures in interpreting them significantly deteriorated the communication quality between the speaker and the audience.In this practice report,the author examines all the interpreting failures and concludes that his unfamiliarity with IT terms and his inappropriate interpreting methods are two main reasons.Under the guidance of Skopos Theory,the author proposes some methods for terminology interpreting:transference,amplification,explanation,omission and adaptation.The feedback from the audience for the author's later interpreting practice verifies the feasibility of these methods.Besides,the author's categorization of the 158 collected terms into four of nine common topics,namely,“new feature,” “camera,” “CPU,” and “appearance”could also help him in terminology preparation for similar tasks in the future.
